I'm basically a documentary maker with a broad set of skills. I'm best known in Australia as a producer and director of social history documentaries for TV/Radio and online. In 2024 I produced Monarto - Lost City of the Future for ABC Radio National (very good download figures). I am now working on a visual documentary about Paris and it's musical history. In 2023 I hosted and produced a podcast for ABC RN on an allegedly haunted house near Newcastle in NSW Good Spooks Bad Spooks. In 2022 I produced the popular radio series Greetings from…the Streets of Australia for ABC Radio National. It echoes the first documentary I co-produced many years ago - King Street, Newtown (ABC TV 1995). Recently I directed a three part TV series Come Fly with me Australia with WildBear (SBS TV 2020).My diverse documentary work includes Awards in Australia and South Africa. My credits include directing The Team that Never Played 2010, an international hit documentary about South African football during Apartheid and Bossa Nova: the sound that seduced the world 2008 (ABC TV and Sydney Film Festival). Have a look at my recent showreel.
But to a particular crowd, I'm better known as the songwriter for the ‘indie’ band the Lighthouse Keepers, who played around Australia and Europe in the mid 1980’s. I've continued to work in sound and music throughout my career. I ended up producing the ground breaking series Long Way to the Top (ABC TV 2001) about Australian Rock music, re-screened many times.
My interests include writing and musical theatre. I wrote and performed in Van Park starring John Paul Young and Steve Kilbey 2012-16. A fringe cabaret show that we performed over a number of seasons in Sydney and Melbourne. It's been a life in the Arts. People, music and places.
